Epilepsy and School: Allies for Your Life Journey

You are not alone in this process

When a child lives with epilepsy, their entire surrounding community deserves to be informed, supported, and equipped. Whether you are a parent, teacher, school professional, or family member, you play an essential role in the well-being of this child.

The Tout-Terrain has been specially designed to support you. This program brings together five complementary services intended for young people aged 4 to 17 and those around them in the territories of Montérégie, Haute-Yamaska, and Brome-Missisquoi.

Our approach is based on a deep conviction: to understand epilepsy is to better manage it. By sharing our knowledge and expertise, we want to create a caring school environment where every child can fully thrive, surrounded by confident and reassured individuals.

1. School Support

For Parents and School Staff

Navigating the school system with epilepsy can seem complex. Sylvain is here to support you in this process. Thanks to his experience as an educator and school principal, he understands the realities of the school environment and knows how to build strong bridges between families, school nurses, and educational teams.

What We Offer:

  • Personalized Support for Parents in Their Procedures
  • Support for Young People in Their Academic Journey
  • Close Collaboration with School Nurses
  • Liaison with School Service Centers and their Professionals

Because every child has the right to an adapted and caring school environment.

2. Awareness Workshops in Schools

To Demystify Epilepsy in the Classroom

For Primary School: Lou’s Magic

Meet Lou, our beloved puppet who lives with epilepsy! Accompanied by Èva, Lou visits classrooms to share her daily life with simplicity and kindness. Children naturally open up to her, ask their real questions, and gently come to terms with epilepsy.

Why Does Lou Make a Difference?

  • She encourages the expression of emotions without judgment
  • She transforms learning into a playful moment
  • She reassures both children and adults

For High School: Authentic Exchanges

Èva facilitates workshops adapted to the concerns of adolescents, addressing the social, emotional, and practical aspects of epilepsy.

The TONIC groups: A unique space where adolescents and parents can exchange separately after watching our mini-series. Each group can thus express its specific concerns in a climate of trust.

3. Kits for Schools

Practical Tools Readily Available

We have created five complete kits designed to make your life easier. Each guide contains reliable information, practical advice, and answers to the most frequent questions.

4. Family Support

Because support is for the whole family.

Living with epilepsy sometimes brings up emotions that are difficult to accept and manage. Anie, our psychosocial worker, offers a caring space where every family member can express their concerns.

Tailored Support for:

  • Parents Seeking Support and Strategies
  • Siblings Who Also Need to Be Heard
  • The Child Living with Epilepsy and Their Concerns

Anie shares tools with you that make daily life easier and strengthen the confidence of the whole family. You don’t have to carry this burden alone.

5. Matching Service

Building Authentic Connections

Sometimes, nothing replaces shared experience with someone living a similar situation. Our matching service brings together people who wish to exchange, share their tips, and support each other.

Why Matching?

  • Adapted to the realities of our vast territory
  • Flexible According to Your Availability
  • Based on similar situations (age, life stage, specific challenges)
  • A Space to Vent, Exchange, and Help Each Other

Building authentic connections is a way to break isolation.

Our Commitment to You

To support and facilitate as quickly as possible the journey of the child coping with epilepsy.

We firmly believe that epilepsy does not define a child. With the right information, appropriate support, and a caring community, every young person can reach their full potential.
