Lavender Day

March: Epilepsy Awareness Month

Lavender Day – Let’s Speak Up Together

In 2012, Canada adopted the National Lavender Day Act, officially designating March 26 as Epilepsy Awareness Day. This initiative, launched by Cassidy Morgan, a courageous nine-year-old girl from Nova Scotia, quickly transformed into a national movement bringing together supporters from east to west.

The color lavender has become the universal symbol of epilepsy awareness, supported by the exceptional collaboration of regional community organizations united under the banner of the Canadian Epilepsy Alliance.

Message from Épilepsie Montérégie

Join us on March 26 and throughout the month of March.

Together, let’s listen differently, see differently, and most importantly, speak openly about epilepsy!

Daily Challenges, Shared Strength!

Living with epilepsy daily presents a constant challenge, with its inequalities and unforeseen circumstances. We commend individuals affected by this neurological condition who demonstrate unwavering perseverance and determination to navigate the various grey areas.

We also highlight the resilience of loved ones who are part of the epilepsy community. When an epilepsy diagnosis is made, the entire family, professional, and academic dynamic must adapt and reinvent itself.

Let's Break the Myths Together!

Despite all our daily efforts in prevention, awareness, training, and support, epilepsy remains misunderstood and prejudices persist. Many myths continue to circulate, and our mission remains to demystify this reality.

It’s time to talk differently about epilepsy.

Why is your Voice Essential?

Often, we are told that very little is heard about epilepsy. This is unfortunately true: epilepsy remains misunderstood, and prejudices persist against individuals affected by this neurological disorder.

Our daily actions are no longer enough.

March is therefore the time to take action and call for your commitment.

Despite our differences, we can come together to:

  • Tell our authentic stories
  • Dare to speak up together
  • Advance the cause of epilepsy
  • Create a movement of positive change

Your involvement can transform the perception of epilepsy in our society. Every shared story, every initiated conversation, every broken prejudice contributes to building a more inclusive world for all individuals affected by epilepsy.
